Hablar de religión no es fácil, especialmente si no es la pro-
pia. Sin embargo, el periodismo da a quien ejerce el oficio ciertas licen-
cias para contar la realidad desde la mirada de la experiencia vivida.
Desde esta perspectiva, considero que la primera Conferencia Interna-
cional sobre el Despertar Islámico (1st International Islamic Awakening
Conference), celebrada en septiembre de 2011 en Teherán, ha sido
determinante para comprender que cuando la religión trasciende al
culto y se constituye como la base de un movimiento revolucionario,
adquiere otro matiz, logrando “hermanar” a personas de diferentes re-
ligiones en torno a un ideal, a un bien común.
El peso de la religión islámica en los movimientos revolucionarios juve-
niles de Túnez, Libia, Egipto, Bahrein, Yemen o Siria no fue una limi-
tante para que éstos tuvieran un efecto dominó más allá de la región.
Ejemplo de ello, son las manifestaciones multitudinarias de jóvenes
indignados en países como España y Gran Bretaña.

Tehran.— To talk about religion is not easy, particularly if it is not our
own. Nevertheless, journalism allows those who exercise it certain licen-
ses to report the reality from the experienced perspective.
From this point of view, I consider that the 1st International Islamic
Awakening Conference, held last September 2011 in Tehran, was cru-
cial to understanding when religion transcends the cult and is established
as the basis of a revolutionary movement. It becomes another nuance,
by achieving a felloship among people of different religions who unite
around an ideal, a common good.
The weight of the Islamic religion in the youth revolutionary movements
in Tunisia, Libya, Egypt, Bahrain, Yemen or Syria, was not a constraint
for them to have a ripple effect beyond the region. An example of this are
the mass demonstrations of angry young men in countries like Spain and
Britain.
