El presidente de la República de Líbano, Michel Sleiman, fue electo el 25 de mayo de 2008 por
el Parlamento libanés.
Michel Sleiman, quien antes de ocupar su actual puesto como presidente fue comandante en
jefe de las fuerzas armadas libanesas, es respetado por su personalidad unificadora.
Sleiman se graduó en la Academia Militar, además es licenciado en ciencias políticas y
administración por la Universidad Libanesa.
Una vez en la institución, Sleiman fue escalando puestos durante los 15 años de la guerra civil
y la posguerra hasta convertirse, en diciembre de 1998, en comandante en jefe del Ejército de
Líbano. Así, Michel Sleiman se convirtió en el tercer responsable militar que ocupa el Palacio de
Baabda, sede de la presidencia.

The President of the Republic of Lebanon, Michel Sleiman was elected on May 25, 2008 by the
Lebanese Parliament. Michel Sleiman, who before taking his current position as president was
Commander in Chief of the Lebanese Armed Forces, is respected for his unifying personality
Sleiman graduated from the Military Academy and also holds a degree in political science and
administration by the Lebanese University. Once in the institution, Sleiman started to climb to
higher ranking posts during the 15 years of civil war and the postwar period, until in December
1998 when he became Commander in Chief of the Lebanese Army. Thus, Michel Sleiman became
the third military official who occupies the Baabda Palace, seat of the presidency.
He visits México for the first time from the 26 to the 28th of September.
