Un equipo de cirujanos franceses del hospital Henri Mondor realizó el primer
trasplante simultáneo de cara y manos. El paciente fue un joven desfigurado
por quemaduras graves. La compleja intervenciónduró30 horas y en ellapar-
ticiparon 40 personas, cuya principal dificultad era coordinarse entre ellos. La
operaciónesel sexto trasplantedecaraquese realizaenelmundo.Sinembar-
go, es el primero que se realiza simultáneamente con el trasplante demanos.

investigación, hablaría de robótica a distancia, de la planificación y de la
realidad aumentada, de la automatización y de la cirugía sin cicatriz”, ex-
plica el profesor Jacques Marescaux, jefe del servicio de cirugía digestiva
en el hospital universitariodeEstrasburgo, Francia, y fundador del Instituto
de Investigación contra el Cáncer del Aparato Digestivo (Ircad). La cirugía
sin cicatriz se aplicó por primera vez en abril de 2007, en Estrasburgo.

El Tecnológico de Monterrey, Campus Monterrey, elabora y diseña una prótesis con
nueva tecnología que se basa en la construcción del iris con mejor funcionamiento,
mayor estética, casi “imperceptible”. La tecnología fue diseñada en la Cátedra de
Investigación en Dispositivos Biomédicos de esa casa de estudios, y consiste en
aprovechar el movimiento de losmúsculos de la cavidad ocular para darlemovilidad a
la prótesis, la cual está diseñada con un polímero biocompatible, material que a decir
del investigador JorgeCortés, titularde lacátedra, nocreacontaminaciónen lacavidad.

The Technological Campus Monterrey is manufacturing and designing prosthesis with
a new technology based on the construction of the iris with a better performance, more
aesthetic, almost "invisible." The technology was designed in the Research Chair on Bio-
medical Devices at the university. This investigation is aimed at harnessing themuscles of
the eye socket’s movement to provide mobility with a prosthesis, which is designed with a
biocompatible polymermaterial that that according to the researcher JorgeCortes, head of
