Los cubanos la identifican como la perla del sur
o la linda ciudad del mar. Y es que desde su
fundación en 1819 por inmigrantes franceses
se distinguió por el meticuloso trazado recti-
líneo de sus calles, el buen gusto y el refina-
miento. En su arquitectura predomina el estilo
neoclásico tardío. Cienfuegos goza además de
una sólida tradición minera y pone a disposi-
ción de los visitantes las cálidas aguas de Playa
Inglés, Rancho Luna o Guajimico, ideales para
el buceo, así como los encantos naturales de
la Sierra del Escambray y de las famosas aguas
médico medicinales de Ciego Montero.

the beautiful city of the sea. And it is that sin-
ce its founding in 1819 by French immigrants,
it was distinguished by the meticulous rectili-
near layout of its streets, its good taste and re-
finement. The architecture dominates the late
neoclassical style. Cienfuegos also has a strong
mining tradition and offers visitors the warm
waters of English Beach, Rancho Luna or
Guajimico, ideal for diving and at the same
time offers the natural wonders of the Sie-
rra del Escambray and the famous medicinal
waters of doctor Ciego Montero.

En sus paradisíacos cayos del norte, desde hace más de 500 años
bautizados como Jardines del Rey, encontró la fértil provincia de Ciego
de Ávila el producto turístico que en breve tiempo le abriría las puertas
al mercado internacional. Cayo Coco y Cayo Guillermo, dos de las
islas que conforman este sui géneris jardín y están enlazadas a tierra
firme por una autovía sobre el mar, son hoy polos turísticos apreciados
y reconocidos por la calidad de sus playas, la concurrencia de elemen-
tos naturales de excepcional valor y el alto grado de conservación que
presentan los ecosistemas marítimos y terrestres del lugar. La piña,
reina de las frutas, es el símbolo distintivo de esta provincia.

In its northern heavenly keys, baptized more than 500 years ago as Jardi-
nes del Rey, this wonderfukl site is located in the fertile province of Ciego
de Avila, a new touristic spot which very soon will open its doors to the
international market. Cayo Coco and Cayo Guillermo, two of the islands
that make up this sui generis garden, are linked to the the mainland by a
highway on the sea and have become a tourist destinations appreciated
and recognized for the quality of its beaches, the concurrence of natural
elements of exceptional value and the high degree of conservation of its
marine and terrestrial ecosystems. The Pineapple, Queen of Fruits, is the
distinctive symbol of this province.
