The General Hospital of Mexico is highly committed to the environment,
a position that is not new and that the current administration has also
established as a priority within the working program over the next five
years. "Dr. FranciscoNavarro, general director of the hospital, has taken
this as a personal challenge and we all have been forced to joining im-
mediately into this dynamic," said Jorge Bolaños Cacho Ruiz, director of
theGHMMaintenance andMaterial Resources.

The first part of the program of the GHM’s "verticality" will conclude
with the construction of the hospital's oncology building, which will
soon be ready and will be an entirely harmonious construction with
the environment.
Jorge Bolanos said that for its construction, the builders used elements
andmaterials compatiblewith the environment, and exemplified that the
facade wasmade out of amaterial that regulates the temperature inside
the hospital, a benefit that allows the GHM to have constant tempera-
tures, decrease the use of air conditioning as well as the installation of
lighting systems which reduce the energy consumption and will require
the use of less electric power.
He explained that the building has afirst generationair conditioning sys-
tem that uses gas, thereby eliminating thegases that contribute to creating
the greenhouse effect.
The new oncology building will also have awastewater treatment plant,
and that this water will be used to irrigate the hospital’s gardens, repre-
senting a significant saving as the General Hospital of Mexico is a huge
gardenwith a hospital inside of it.
It will also have a rain water recovery system, water that after being
properly treated will be used for human consumption. The photoelectric
cells for power generation will also be used in the oncology building for
lighting corridors and areas that do not require large amounts of energy
because it is still a technologywith certain limitations.
Another environmental progress will use high-efficiency solar cells for
heating water for bathing services and cleaning equipment, among
other things.
