El doctorDavidKershenobich resaltóqueel Hospital
General deMéxico es probablemente el nosocomio
en el país que mayor número de autopsias realiza,
lo que permite tener un material muy valioso con
el que se realizan investigaciones puntuales, y citó
dos ejemplos:
Laepidemiade influenzaquehuboenMéxicoen2009,
a causa de la cual en el hospital fallecieron algunos
pacientes a los que se les realizó una autopsia, cuyos
resultados permitieron saber que lo que ocurría en los
pulmones era una reacción inmunológica exagerada
con una gran producción demacrófagos, lo cual per-
mitió publicar esta información en una de las revistas
demayor impactomundial como es
TheNewEngland
Journal of Medicine.
También destacó las investigaciones que se llevan a
cabo en el hospital en materia de carcinoma cérvico
uterino, ya que mencionó que el nosocomio es líder
en algunos de los nuevos polimorfismos que permiten
detectar susceptibilidad, pero en particular, en el de-
sarrollo y aplicación de vacunas contra el papiloma.
Otras de las líneas de investigación en que el hospital
hadestacado son el tratamientoquirúrgicode estados
neurológicos avanzados como son los trastornos ob-
sesivos compulsivos, la enfermedad de Parkinson y el
control de la epilepsia.
Asimismo, está por concluirse un estudio en torno
a la hepatitis C, el cual se realiza en colaboración
con el Banco de Sangre y el Servicio de Infectología
del hospital.
En colaboración con la Unidad de Medicina Experi-
mental se llevan a cabo estudios cardiovasculares de
ablación y de colocación de marcapasos los cuales
se constituyen como un centro de entrenamiento a
escalamundial.
Encuantoa la reumatologíamencionóquesedesarrollan
nuevos fármacos quepermitirán un áreade oportunidad
paraMéxico.
Sostuvo que se realizan estudios de neumología con
relación a los procesos infecciosos como la gripe, así
como estudios de neoplasias.
Finalmente el jefe de la Dirección de Investigación del
HGM destacó que el hospital está por inaugurar una
nuevaáreadeatenciónparaenfermosoncológicosque
seguramente va a dar lugar a investigación de punta.
Dr. David Kershenobich noted that the General Hospital of Mexico is
probably the hospital inMexico with the highest number of autopsies
performed, which allows it to have a very valuable material to
undertake specific investigations, and cited two examples: The
influenza epidemic inMexico in 2009, caused the decease of some of
the patients whowere in the hospital and because of it they underwent
an autopsy. “The results allowed us to know what was happening in
the lungs, an exaggerated immune response with a high production
of macrophages. With this information we were able to publish our
findings in The NewEngland Journal of Medicine, one of the world's
major journals”.
He also highlighted the research being conducted in the hospital on
cervical uterine carcinoma, and he mentioned that the hospital is
leader in some of the new polymorphisms to detect susceptibility,
but in particular in the development and application of vaccines
against papilloma.
Other line of research where the hospital has been outstanding is in the
surgical treatment of advanced neurologic conditions such as obsessive-
compulsive disorder, Parkinson's disease and epilepsy control.
The hospital is also about ready to complete a study on hepatitis C,
which is being done in collaboration with the Blood Bank and the
Department of Infectious Diseases at the hospital. In collaboration with
the Unit of Experimental Medicine, cardiovascular studies of ablation
and pacemaker placement are being conducted, becoming in this way a
training center inworldwide scale.
In the case of rheumatology, he mentioned that new drugs are being
developed that will open anewarea of opportunity forMexico.
The doctor added that studies are carried out in relation to respiratory
medicine infectious diseases as influenza, and cancer related studies.
Finally the head of the Research Division of HGM stressed that the
hospital is about to inaugurateanew carearea for cancer patientswhich
surelywill lead the hospital to anew era of edge investigation.
